$4 Prescription Plan

In the last few years, several pharmacies and major retail chains have noticed the importance of offering a lower cost prescription plan. As a result, one came up with the $4 prescription plan and soon others started to follow. There are several benefits and disadvantages to the plan, but for most people living on a budget, these plans are some of the best ones available when it comes to getting the medication they need. One should keep in mind that the medicine varieties available on the $4 plan are limited and most of them are generic drugs. There is nothing wrong with generic brands and they are ultimately the same medication as the ones in your branded package. They all go through the same testing process and if you read the package carefully, they all have the same chemical components. The only reason the cost is kept lower is due to the less amount of funding spent on packaging and advertising. Whenever possible, go for the generic selection in order to save money.

On the other hand not every medication has a generic brand and those which are at a higher cost, are not covered by the low cost plan. But those medications are rarely used and there is little chance of one actually needing them on a regular basis. The low cost plan is now offered by some of the major chain stores including Target and Wal-Mart. They have seen a huge number of customers due to the affordable health plan. Many insurance companies too cover the plan and it is slowly becoming one of the smartest moves made by pharmacies, throughout the country. If you decide to switch your medication from branded to generic, speak to your doctor first for professional advise. For certain items, ask you local pharmacist and they will be able to guide you in the right direction too.
